A Car to Save the Planet
by PROVOKE: PROvide Vehicles On Knowledge of Environmental benefits

You may be surprised by the name of this website at the moment, but you’ll thank your lucky stars that you saw it 10 years from now! Why? Because the world is currently running out of petroleum, and the day will come when we’ve used the last drop. So, what good does getting rid of your car do? It prolongs the time until we do burn the last drop of petroleum, which may just give your children a few years more to live in ways that we have now taken for granted. It may just give US a few more years to live in ways that we have until now taken for granted, when the alternative is death for millions!

Death for millions, you cannot be serious! Unfortunately, when you look out on your driveway and see a car that you cannot use because there is no more petroleum, and no one can use their cars, nor the trucks that bring food to supermarkets from farmers who have no more fuel for their tractors and combine harvesters, the awful truth may just sink in!

But, I am neither a doomsday glutton, nor a supine fatalist. Perhaps because my heart stopped for 10 minutes following a car accident 26 years ago, and I created a way to accelerate the process of regaining my life, I believe strongly in pro-active, cooperative, creative, democratic and dynamic preparatory action, using all the creative resources that the world has at its command, which are practically infinite!

Right, where do we start, remembering that the survival of the human race itself is at stake?! First, we can no longer continue to use one of the most inefficient ways of moving ourselves around that has ever been invented, while granting that it is the automobile that has made the modern world what it is! A car, at 2000 pounds for the transport of a person or persons weighing only 150 – 300 pounds, is far too wasteful in petroleum to consider, if ANY of you care to look beyond the next 10 years!

What are the alternatives? I have a sister site, greenmillennium.eu, that
proposes some radical new ideas for the forms that new building must take, and here on this site I would like to create a blog with my proposals and your proposals for bridging the gap, no the chasm or abyss, that will open when there is no more petroleum.

Given that there will soon be the most massive problem that mankind has ever faced for its own survival, in what directions can we point our noses and direct our research so that as few of us suffer as possible? As mentioned, the site above displays many potential solutions, deliberately unpatented, that will contribute to solutions to mankind’s survival and stimulate the whole world into using all of our capacities to reach for and create those solutions, without too much bloodshed!

In regard to vast improvements to the world’s overdependence on INEfficient Personal Transportation devices (INEPTs) or cars, there are also incredible modifications to car capabilities that can be made at no cost and considerable convenience especially in terms of economy and safety to the consumer! If the average traveller, man, woman or child weighs 160 pounds, and the average vehicle or car at least 2000 pounds, we are asking the world’s energy supply to sustainably and indefinitely provide for this excess weight in the vehicle itself without any regard to the feasible alternatives that current technologies can provide.
Because the world has an existing transportation infrastructure, and it is impossible to transform it overnight into something that is 100% sustainable, what must happen is that the aforementioned INEPTs must be replaced by new NON INEPTs (New Omni-Networked INgEnious Personal Transportation devices), for which the following example is provided to provoke your grey cells:
This NON INEPT has a lightweight composite (petroleum is better used to make cars than to burn it up in driving them) body, with a rigid structure in green that deflects oncoming cars, no
matter whether they come from the front, the side, or the rear, please see the illustrations below. This has the effect of greatly reducing the impact felt by the passengers as it spreads out the time during which the impact occurs. In addition, it spreads the surface area of the impact on the passengers from either a seatbelt surface or an airbag contact surface area to that of their entire contact with their seats thus eliminating the injuries commonly caused by seatbelts and airbags. The front fenders and front suspension A arms have triggers in the bumpers on each side that make them collapse readily, and the roof “A”, “B” and “C” pillars are reinforced:

The designs for transportation infrastructure that I illustrate on the website, greenmillennium.eu, are meant to eliminate the need for INEPTs by providing all of our needs through modern, high-tech, computerised mass transit systems. But, both the mentalities and the necessities of our human world dictate that we will not immediately be able to manage without INEPTs. The above concepts are meant to serve both as a bridge to the world of zero carbon that we must reach without fail if our genes are to have a hope for survival, and as thorns in your sides to see if your brains can produce something even better!
We hope that you can see that our planet must be transformed if 6 billion + of us are to survive. Again, these images are meant to provoke vigorous debate that can lead to the production and sale of extremely energy efficient cities, buildings and cars, while we still have the energy resources to build them – before the entire planet slides into the bottomless pit of energy poverty!

Please remember that these concepts are the result of a car accident after which my heart stopped for 10 minutes and that required me to stagger, walk and jog more than 330 miles to regain the capabilities that we all take for granted. Without these handicaps, I reckon that you all can do much better!
